Nissan Patrol · Compatibility & theft guide

Keep the Patrol
in your driveway.

Patrol thefts in Victoria rose by about 30 percent in 2025, and the Y62 is a prime target for the key-fob relay devices police now blame for one in five thefts in the state. StarterStopper is a hidden immobiliser that cuts the starter and a second circuit until you press a hidden button or enter your code. No app, no subscription, reversible install.

More than 340 Nissan Patrols were stolen in Victoria in 2025, up roughly 30 percent on the year before (Crime Statistics Agency data).

Why this car

A V8 wagon with
a keyless weak spot.

The Y62 is big, fast and worth a lot, and it starts with a smart key. That last part is the problem. A relay device that extends the signal from the fob in your hallway to the car in your driveway starts the engine without touching a lock, and Victoria Police estimate about 20 percent of the state's stolen cars now go that way. One Melbourne Patrol was stolen twice in 48 hours.

A hidden immobiliser that sits outside the car's own electronics does not care how the thief got the doors open or the dash lit up. Without the hidden button or your code, the starter stays dead.

Which kit

Two Patrols,
two kinds of kit.

The generation matters more than the year. The checker below confirms it for your exact Patrol.

Y62, 2013 on

Intelligent key and push-button start on every grade. The One is the match: press-sequence codes, per-driver codes, service mode, master code card.

See the One

GU / Y61, 1997 to 2016

Wagon and cab-chassis, sold alongside the Y62 until 2016: key start. Classic is the value pick; Alarm adds a horn response to an unauthorised start.

See Classic

GQ and earlier

Key start throughout. Classic or Alarm fits straight in, the same reversible splice as on any other key-start 4WD.

Install

An afternoon
behind the dash.

The unit is smaller than a deck of cards and lives hidden behind the dash. The harness is pre-made and every cable is tagged for its connection; you splice into the starter circuit and one more circuit of your choice, mount the hidden button where only you would look, and test. Most owners are done in about two hours with the diagram for their transmission and Stop/Start setup.

Not a DIY person? Authorised installers fit the One for a fixed price, car dropped off in the morning and back the same day.

Questions

Patrol owners
ask us this.

Anything else, email contact@starterstopper.com. We usually reply within a few hours during AU business hours.

Does it stop a relay attack on the Y62's smart key?

The relay trick convinces the car the key is nearby, so the doors open and the start button works. StarterStopper One sits in between: the starter and your chosen second circuit stay cut until the hidden button sequence is entered. The thief has the car's permission and still cannot start it.

Will it work on my GU with the key ignition?

Yes, with Classic or Alarm. They are built for key-start vehicles. The One also fits a GU if you want per-driver codes.

Will this upset the electronics or throw a fault code?

StarterStopper interrupts the starter circuit and one further circuit you choose (fuel or ECM). There is no CAN-bus integration and no model-specific electronics, so there is nothing for the body computer to object to. Some vehicles watch monitored circuits closely, which is exactly why push-button cars get the One. If you are unsure, run the 10-minute driveway test we email after the compatibility check before you install.

What about Stop/Start?

StarterStopper is designed to work with Stop/Start systems, but vehicle behaviour can vary. The install guide has a separate diagram for Stop/Start cars. If yours has it, mention it when you contact us and we will confirm the wiring for your model.

Can a thief just find it and bypass it?

They have to find it (smaller than a deck of cards, hidden behind the dash), recognise it, and short two specific terminals. By then they have spent more time than they would picking another car. The hidden button or code is the only thing that disarms it.

Does it drain the battery?

Classic and Alarm draw about 0.6 mA when armed, roughly the same as your factory clock. The One sits around 20 µA in standby. Vehicles parked for six weeks or more during testing did not flatten their battery.

Can I take it out again, or move it to my next car?

Yes. Pull the harness, reconnect the original wires with the butt connectors we ship for exactly this, done. No permanent modification, nothing cut that cannot be restored. Many owners move the unit to their next vehicle.

Is it covered by warranty?

Every StarterStopper carries a 2-year product warranty, with 30-day returns and free worldwide shipping. The install is reversible, so there is no permanent change to the vehicle; if you prefer not to do it yourself, an authorised installer fits it in a morning.
